What You Need to Know About Genital, Vaginal Laser

How should the intervals for Genital and Vaginal Laser sessions be?

For intravaginal procedures such as vaginal tightening, vaginal rejuvenation, vaginal dryness, and recurrent vaginitis treatment, the session intervals are set at every 6 weeks. For skin applications such as stretch mark treatment, vulvar whitening, lichen sclerosus, and vulvar vestibulitis, the intervals are set at every 4 weeks.

How many sessions are needed for Genital/Vaginal Laser treatment to be effective?

The number of sessions required for Genital/Vaginal Laser treatment to be effective varies depending on the patient and the characteristics of the device. Typically, with the high-quality device we use, 2 sessions are sufficient. In diabetic patients, 3 sessions may be required.

What should be considered during Genital Laser treatment?

During Genital Laser treatment, both the patient and healthcare workers must wear protective goggles. Laser settings should be adjusted according to the patient's skin tone, and this information should be recorded in the patient's file. Metal objects like jewelry and piercings in the treatment area should be removed. For skin applications, a local anesthetic cream should be applied to the area 20 minutes before the procedure. In vaginal applications, the vaginal area should be cleaned of discharge with moist gauze.

What should be considered after Vaginal Laser treatment?

After Vaginal Laser treatment, acidic, silver-containing, or mercury-containing creams should not be used. Following skin applications, laser hair removal should not be performed, and sun exposure or tanning beds should be avoided for 1 month before and after the treatment. Hot showers should not be taken for 2 weeks. After vaginal procedures, sexual intercourse and heavy exercise should be avoided for one week.

After a vaginal procedure, there may be an increase in discharge for up to 7 days, especially during the first 3 days. Vaginal spotting may occur during the first week. Moisturizing creams can be applied 3 times a day for one week until full recovery. If there is pain, pain-relieving creams can be used. Cold compresses can be applied. A warm shower can be taken the day after the procedure, but scrubbing or loofahs should not be used.

What can be observed after Genital/Vaginal Laser treatment?

After Genital/Vaginal Laser treatment, redness, swelling, hypopigmentation (loss of pigment),or conversely, hyperpigmentation (increase in pigment),itching, discharge, burning during urination, spotting, scarring, and infection may occur on the skin.

When should Genital/Vaginal Laser treatment not be performed?

Genital/Vaginal Laser treatment should not be performed on patients who have used isotretinoin, which causes photosensitivity, in the last 6 months, those with active vaginal, urinary, or skin infections, those with collagen tissue diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, oncological patients, those with herpes, those using chronic steroids, those who have undergone pelvic mesh surgery, those with undiagnosed uterine/vaginal bleeding, those with a history of keloid or scar formation, those who have previously received radiation therapy to the area, and those with burns in the treatment area. It should also be postponed for patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
